The programme will not only strengthen students' sense of community and empowerment; but also foster friendly, supportive relationships among peer students, teachers, and parents.

Adopting an effective approach to community-building has become crucial to develop positive cross-age relationships while creating a caring ethos in the school. It’s a unique way of bringing younger and older age groups together by pairing young students with an older buddy. Every child thus gets an elder sibling at school, which enables positive engagement and behaviour for all students.

The programme promotes inclusive learning that increases the self-esteem and confidence of students and helps reduce negative behaviours such as bullying. A majority of schools cannot afford extra guards, even if they can, they usually do not have any idea about the mindset of people being hired. This is where the buddy programme comes into the picture. Teachers select the buddies, after knowing them for quite a long time, and teach them the values of caring for others, friendliness, trust, respect, to develop a sense of responsibility. Ruchika Gupta and Simmi Ranjan will be in charge of ‘Buddy programme’ at Modern International School.

Dr. Gaurav Nigam, Director of Modern International School says, “We feel extremely delighted to announce the launch of Buddy programme which facilitates a positive environment for students at school campus. The idea behind this endeavour is to create a safe ecosystem, where vigilance, care and protection is not driven by school authorities but comes out of students on their own. The programme trains children of different age groups to create strong, supportive relationships with each other, as well as to learn the skills of collaboration for academic and recreational activities, to be better buddies.”
